They Don't Want Us to Win

I mean DJ Khaled said it best, "They don't want you to win". So the real question is who really won that match? Was it Serena Williams one of the greatest of all times or this young girl? Three penalties for what? The woman whom the stadium is named after said it best when she stated; when a woman speaks up, she's historical, but when a man does the same he's outspoken. This has become all so common today, the inequalities that separate men and women. A man and a woman will have the same degree, same position, and guess what, the woman will get paid less. This shouldn't be, Serena wasn't given a fair chance and a fair opportunity because the umpire had another agenda. They had a problem with her catsuit, now three penalties, for what? Because she's a black woman, who has worked hard to become one of the greatest? "They don't want us to win!"

Halloween Rant on Milo's Controversy


“What is freedom of expression? Without the freedom to offend, it ceases to exist.” - Salman Rushdie


Mr. Rushdie is right. Even as a human who hates ignorants, I have to admit that even ignorants are allowed to speak. I mean look at the political state of the country. Now, whether I or any person in power choose to take action based on that ignorant form of expression is a whole different story. Now I don't know whether professor Jackson chose this prompt because of what’s going on with Milo but I think this is too much coverage for a troll. I don’t want to dismiss what Milo has done, but I also refuse to give him the attention he’s already gained. In simple terms, I think he should be allowed to talk wherever and whenever and especially if a professor of NYU is the one who chooses to do what he wants in his classroom. In terms of politics and media, he’s just gotten too much attention. Last night I got an email with email and phone templates to flood Dean Mostov and President Hamilton’s inbox but that’s just too much. Professors are gathering to see how they can prevent Milo’s coming. Even effing De Blasio takes a moment to take care of Milo. As if De Blasio does not have a segregated public school system to take work with. De Blasio cares more about Milo’s safety than the fucking public school system.

             The Sunken Place. You're stuck and can't move. A white woman is sitting across from you. She stirs her cup of hot tea and the clink of the spoon echos down your core. That's the physical. But the women is also entering your soul, your conscious.  You sink down into a pool of darkness. Your first demise. Your sight is viewed in a television box while you float to your eternal silence. You're not in control of yourself, a white man enters your body. Your second demise. Your dark skin desired by all. Your mind, your body, your resilience. It's desired.  Why is this woman entering my mind? Why am I wanted? Why am i desired? As you sink towards the sunken place, you think of all your life events leading towards this moment. They want my mind, my body, my skin. As you sink towards the sunken place eternal anger and pain radiates through your conscious as a white man, or a white woman takes reclaim of the skin they've always had the power over.

This is a screenshot of an article, but it only shows the title and picture. The title, "Google an AI which predicts death better than doctors." That is something I don't doubt, we spend so much time on Google we know they know us better than ourselves. Thats why when you're doing anything online, your computer gives you ads of things you like. They're calculating the minutes you have left. They can use your camera to take a few years off your life if they see you doing something questionable...stupid. I think a human diagnosis will always be more accurate because it takes one to know one...LOL. Maybe this death predictor is just as accurate as horoscopes. You know we all feen for those because "they're so me", so maybe when we see how and when we're going to die we're going to be like "facts, thats true". The internet is a scary and interesting place, if you trust web MD for the ongoing pain in your chest signifying you have cancer, then maybe Google's death calendar may work for you. I surely wouldn't trust it as they always tell you that anything you read on the internet isn't true, but honestly don't we usually read that on the internet? Yeah... so I don't know who to trust during times like this... but I still think a human is always the best bet because it is a more hands on, specific diagnosis. Ya feel?

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for women to dissolve the systemic oppression which have connected them with the government, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of womankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to desire gender equality.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men and women are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are control of one’s Life, Political Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness through equal opportunity.— That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Women, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,— That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to amend it, and to institute an improved Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. He has lessened the paychecks of women though they work smarter and harder than most men. He has made women pay more for a feminine product made with the same ingredients.
He has caused women the headache of getting a job when they have more than enough qualifications listed on their resumes.
He has caused women many tears at night from feeling as though they are lesser than human through the constant mental, physical, and verbal abuse.
He has stripped women of the voice they never had when expressing concerns about important issues plaguing the world and their lives alike.

In every stage of these Oppressions We, women, have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A society whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a patriarch is unfit to be the ruling precedent of a free people. Nor have We been wanting in attention to our Male brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our capabilities and role here. When in the Course of Vegan days, it becomes necessary for one vegan to dissolve the meat-eating bands which have connected them with another, and to assume the powers of vegans, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Animals and Plants and of Animal and Plant God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinion of vegans requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation because we are different and therefore superior.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all vegans are created equal, that they are endowed by their Animals and Plants certain unalienable Rights, that among these are eating vegetables, hating on meats, and the pursuit to show our dietary ways that nobody really cares about. That to secure these rights, Plants should be eaten over Meat, deriving this diet from the consent of the Vegans, -- That whenever any Form of Diet becomes too much concerning Meat, it is the Right of the Vegans to alter or abolish it, and to institute a new diet, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its food in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Veganism. Plants, indeed, will dictate that Diet long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly, all experience hath shown, that vegans are more disposed to suffer, which meat-eaters are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when there are long lines at KFC and Arby’s, pursuing invariably the same Meta evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Meat Eating Empire, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Diet, and to provide new Dietary manners for their future security.-- Such has been the patient sufferance of these Vegans; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Meat Eating Diets. The history of present Meat-Eating Diet is a history of repeated misinformation and laziness, all having in direct object the establishment of a Meat-Eating Society that plagues our world. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.
He has refused his Assent to Veganism, the most wholesome and natural dietary guidelines to which all humankind should abide by.
He has called together Restaurant Chains at places unusual, uncomfortable, and smelly such as KFC, Arby’s, Chik-fil-a, Burger King etc, for the sole purpose of fatiguing vegans into compliance with the “American” sentiment that relies upon and identifies itself as a Meat-Eating nation.
He has refused to provide the rightful accommodation of large districts of vegans, at parties where vegans are invited and upon arrival are faced with the smell of burning flesh and not a single vegan option.
He has endeavoured to prevent the spread of veganism; for that purpose of obstructing the right of animals; refusing to pass others to encourage such way of life and thus hindering the progress of humanity where we shall all eat plants on Mars.
He has made the general population dependent on his Meats alone for the tenure of their taste-buds, causing addiction through advertisements in trains, buses, on the streets and everywhere else that is open to our sight.
He has sent hither swarms of Vegan-haters to harass our people.
He has kept among us, in times of peace, Halal carts and meat oriented restaurants without the Consent of the Animals or the Vegans.
He has abdicated Veganism here, by not declaring us as superior beings that smell good and have toned abs and thus waging War against us.
He has plundered our kitchens, ravaged our senses with the smell of meat, burnt our chickens, and destroyed the hopes of our people.
He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on our next-door neighbors who are always celebrating something with a barbecue, the merciless Carnivore Savages whose known rule of chomping on flesh, is an undistinguished destruction of all natural and holy taste, scent and conditions.

With each act of Oppressions We have constantly complained and stated our dietary restriction. Our repeated petition is only answered with mockery and injury. A man who is with character is thus marked by eating meat is unfit to be human among us.
Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our vegetarian brethren. We have warned them from time to time to stop the use of all and any animal products.We have appealed to their native justice, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred of not eating meat, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of non animal products. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation from the vegetarians, and hold them, as we hold the rest of meat eaters, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.
We, therefore, the Representatives of the American Vegan Society, located at 56 Dinshah Dr, Malaga, NJ , Assembled, appealing to the Supreme vegan of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good vegans of the U.S, solemnly publish and declare, That these vegans are, and of Right ought to be Free and should have more vegan friendly options in more restaurants no matter the place, and that all political connection between them and the vegetarians, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as more animal friendly group, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract PETA, establish vegan friendly laws, and to do all other Acts and Things which regular meat eater may of right do. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that not all campus’ are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Space to Walk, a Closed off campus, and the Pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, a Gated Community instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of university students and faculty. That whenever non university students and faculty enter the campus becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the students to alter or abolish it and to institute new campus borders laying its foundation on such principles of recognizing and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to affect university students commute and safety within the campus. When a long train of abuses and lack of a gated campus community, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute campus invasion, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such standards, and to provide new Guards for their future sanity. --Such has been patient sufferance of these university students and faculty; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former open campus. The history of the present New York University campus is a history of repeated injuries and campus invasion, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over the university students and faculty members. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.

-He has through his own selfish ways made us suffer through the endless construction contaminating our already crowded streets.
-He has taken control of our sidewalks
-He has injured us through an overpopulated city filled with amateur bikers
-He has driven our drivers to become mad with rage
- He has intruded on our conversations with his strident machines
- He has obstructed the basic college need of a football team.
-He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, the stench of those who don’t have the means to shower and stand on the corners awaiting the students.
-He has distorted the view of Washington square park through the infestation of rats

In every stage of these Oppressions, We have Petitioned for Redress in the most ambivalent terms: Our repeated Complaints haven't been answered and the more we complain the more spread out our campus becomes. A campus without boundaries is no real campus at all.

Nor have we been wanting in campus brethren. We have warned them of our struggle navigating the streets of our campus. We have reminded them of our circumstances time and time and time again, yet our request is neglected. They too have been deaf to the voice of the student body. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and holds them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in the city campus, in Peace Friends.

They have full power to shove people when they walking too slow, and not stop for the signal lights on every corner, push bikers, walk into potholes without regards without caution tapes, and orange cones on every street. FREE WORLD

Free World, some say. But those some never came across oppressions. They have never experienced or saw what its like to be part of a disadvantaged group. There were times when I thought religion was the bane of humanity, causing wars throughout history for no other reason than to assert religious superiority. I never knew what it was like to be part of a religious organization and how powerful and motivating its community is, up until now. Their prayers and there deep thinking emotionally motivated me. The declaration calls for people to experience not just watch from far beyond. The free country as the U.S. is called is only superfluous. It's not real. No country how great they are cannot be 100% free. These countries cannot be all freedom and no oppression. The people who think the U.S. is a free country was like me, making fun of religious community. Freedom cannot be obtained as there are always few in each community that wants to assert their power. The problem is not the majority, its the minority power. We cannot judge a group by their loud minority, and what the media covers. The media covers what's interesting, they never cover the good, never cover the silent majority. We cannot judge Muslims because of ISIS, we cannot judge Christians because of Westboro Baptist Church, and we cannot judge a group because of a few people.

LYNCHING

Lynching. How can you describe it? It's so iconic yet so unsettling. Killing somebody not through beatings, or through shootings, but by hanging them from a tree. An economical way of killing, a way of killing that sends out a message to the community. Nobody has lynched better than the infamous KKK. During the 1920's, these guys lynched with no persecutions against them. They had bodies of innocent blacks over them, and just had picnic looking at their perceived gorgeous scenery of dead blacks. Calvin Coolidge, the president back in the 20's, hated the KKK, but he didn't do anything to stop it. The hate was rampant, and lynching continued. The image shows KKK member being lynched instead of the usual black victim. But, at the end of the day, killing is killing and no matter how heinous of a crime they have done, there cannot be violence against them. Martin Luther King Jr. never advocated for this, he didn't want revenge and killing, he wanted reconciliation. He wanted neo-nazis and KKK members to have black friends and realize that blacks are not what perceive to be. Revenge is nice, a way to boost confidence, and a way to put down another group that has tormented you for so long. But, the best revenge is when the hate group is dissolved because they don't hate anymore. Violence doesn't stop the hate, it only creates more hate. Peace is what we need but its something so hard to achieve. Peace isn't something everybody wants especially those filled with hatred. Sometimes Peace cannot be achieved without violence, but maintaining peace as long as possible is important.

We currently live in an age where the political atmosphere has completely shifted from where it use to be. We no longer respect the presidency as the president no longer respects its citizens. From grabbing women by their genitals and calling Haiti a “shithole country”, our political climate is not in a place it should be. The man occupying our country has completely changed the way the office of the presidency is viewed. Being the constant punch line of jokes, Donald Trump isn’t viewed as a respected world leader, but rather a joke. This makes me think, is there still value to the office of the presidency and its position if men like Donald Trump are able to obtain such? From his constant twitter fingers to bashing other world leaders, why is this man still in office? In such a world where it seems many don’t favor the current president, we should ask ourselves: How did he get into office in the first place, and why is he still there? It’s time for America to wake up and realize if your not registered to vote, go register and then vote! Voting makes a change, and if you don’t think so, you are part of the problem.

The grass is always greener on the other side. But for many of us, we don't even have to wander as far as our neighbor's yard, but rather think forward to hopes of greener days to come. Human beings by nature are striving creatures, never static in their pursuits and always working towards their next goal. It's how we survive. But in an increasingly competitive world of cut-throat ambition to get to the top, we've lost all meaning of what it is to live. While desperately working to get to the top, the "end goal," we have lost every moment only to realize there is no end, no final stage where every problem is solved, nothing but life, then death. We fail to recognize the reality of progress in that it never ends. Instead of searching for the future springs of blooming gardens and green grass, we need to look outside and realize that this is it, the grass, not greener, not dying, just the grass. With that mindset of acceptance, our standards are lowered from an impossible utopia and brought down to a reality we can enjoy.

Response Journal
          Many people in this world didn't grow up with a gold spoon in their mouths or in fact anything gold, or maybe not even anything of much value, or what the world deems to be valuable. Many people do however grow to acquire these things. Through hard work, dedication, and patients. Through the blood, sweat, and tears. Looking back they often remember who they once were, what they once had, what they once wanted and couldn't get. The word blessed isn't really an easy word to define, but in this context, it could mean, thankful, or grateful are they who remember, and as a result, continue to gain. Some people just merely long for a meal to eat or a place to lay their heads, while others long for riches and wealth. Both individuals must endure, to gain. However, in the end, if they remember what they once had, they are blessed. It's as if these individuals have a sense of gratitude, they've become humbled by their experiences, and as a result, they have what they now have today. If one is cocky and affirms that all they have today is by their own doing, and they forget where they came from and who they once were can they really be considered blessed?

            So, I’ve been listening to J. Cole’s album on repeat since its release on 4/20, and there’s a specific line in one of the songs where he raps about how the white men who tend to write history books tend to white out their sins. It is sad that Abraham Lincoln is represented as a hero for African Americans but in reality, him freeing the slaves was a war tactic. Yes, he did sign the emancipation proclamation but not for the greater good for all humanity he just didn’t want the south to win the war.  There is no doubt in my mind that the star-spangled banner is racist because everyone tends to leave out the third verse on Francis Scott’s key most famous song. We are taught to respect these songs but in reality, some of them don’t even respect African Americans as a race.

April 23, 2018 Journal


This picture of the two officers taking/deporting the Hispanic man really breaks my heart. I know a lot of people who are in America illegally…or undocumented as I'd rather say. When my parents built our house 25 years ago the land they purchased was cheap. So we have a lot of it. 11 acres to be exact, which I know most people won’t understand what that is but it’s a bit bigger than Washington Square Park. It’s hard taking care of all of the land so about 12 years ago my dad hired someone to cut the grass, trim the trees, and deal with weeds. His name is Esteban and when we first hired him he was an undocumented immigrant from Mexico. He has a wife and, now, three daughters. His daughters are American citizens because they were born on American soil and now Esteban and his wife are citizens (they obtained their green cards about six years ago now). Most of my dad’s employees at his pizza shops were undocumented for a long time, but now they all have their papers and are legally living in the states. I know my dad has a huge soft spot for people that have come to America illegally in search of a better life, because that’s exactly what he did. At the age of 16 my dad left Sicily and came to America and bounced around from job to job, state to state, trying to find himself a better life than Sicily could offer him. Because of this, he opened his arms to the people who work/worked for him. He made them family. I’ve grown up around all of his employees. A lot of them have been at my birthday parties when I was younger and to this day call me “Carmelita” whenever I come to the pizza shop. When I see pictures like the one on the screen it breaks my heart because all I can think about is how that easily could have happened to my dad’s employees who I look at as extended family. Or even scarier, it could have happened to my dad.
